One Tagaytay Place Free Accommodation - A Scam or Not?

The following post is an old post from HeBlogs-SheBlogs.com...

We Won 3-Days and 2-Nights’ Accommodation!
(and a free cocktail buffet)

You see, I’m one very unlucky girl when it comes to raffles and prizes. I only won once in my life, ever. It was at a company Christmas party, where my name was drawn for the Php1,000.00 consolation prize. And it, being the first time in my life ever, I jumped and shouted and looked rather stupid.  There was another time, when I was “picked” among the many shoppers at a mall (maybe because I looked gullible enough), to be given a chance for a random raffle draw where I can draw my own prize from a bowlful of appliance showcase prizes. That is if I buy something from them. To cut the story short (because it is rather embarrassing), it was a scam and I ended up paying a 50% down payment for a Php30,000 massager to win the whole entertainment showcase of 50-inch TV with DVD player and surround speaker system, air purifier and something else that I can’t recall right now. But I can only take them home after paying the whole amount.  But since I only had a little cash and small credit limit in my card, I ended up paying Php15,000 and taking home the massager, which they didn’t want to give to me at first unless fully-paid…which I later learned from the internet that it only costs around Php7,000 – Php10,000.  I went home with an overpriced massager, feeling totally numb and stupid. I felt like I was hypnotized and felt like an idiot when I came to my senses.

After that “winnings”, I became very wary of these neck-tied dudes approaching people at the malls. I became allergic to them.  Then last Saturday, I received a call from a telemarketer telling me that we just won a 3-Days and 2-Nights’ Accommodation for two from One Tagaytay Place. He knew all the information we had provided to RSM restaurant in Tagaytay a week ago when we had lunch there. He sounded legit and even told us not to bring cash or credit card when we come to pick up our Gift Certificate. All they were asking was 90-minute of our time to listen to their presentation about their hotel. He told me that it was their way of promoting their hotels, instead of the more expensive TV commercials. We said okay and confirmed our attendance for the next day, despite knowing there’d be a catch to this. We just considered it a nice drive to Tagaytay and a free cocktail buffet.  I’m more confident now to my “Saying NO” powers. :)

So, we drove up there the next day, but we confirmed first with the restaurant if these guys are really connected or affiliated with them in one way or another. Just to make sure, you know. ;) After confirming that they are really legit, we went to their hotel and were served a not-bad, tasty enough, free cocktail. Here’s a picture:

    The Free Cocktail Buffet

Then we went to another room for the 90-minute presentation, with a conviction that we are not going to buy anything. A guy named Philip was thorough in his explanation and presentation. He was honest and told us that at the end of the presentation, he’d be offering us something but won’t force us into it if we didn’t like it. He also promised that we’d still get the gift certificate for the 3-days and 2-nights hotel accommodation even if we don’t buy anything. As expected, there was a vacation membership offered to us and a discount card with freebies for a certain price.  But true enough to his words, he didn’t push us into buying and still gave us our gift certificate or hotel voucher. In fairness, the membership was a good idea but just not for us people with other more important priorities to pay for.  Here's the voucher:

    The Hotel Voucher

We got our free cocktail buffet and our gift certificate without buying anything, alright. However, we still need to pay a refundable booking fee of Php5,000 to claim our prize and reserve the dates for our chosen hotel, which we will get back after the vacation ended. We think it’s fair enough, just to protect them from people who reserves but then cancels. It is hotel business, you know.

Anyhow, it’s for us to find out if this “prize” is really worth the “price”. Voucher is valid for 6 months and we have yet to plan for it, but we think we’re going to take it.  We’ll let you know what comes off it afterwards. :)

    The Hotel

POST UPDATE:  We were not able to avail of the free accommodation because the numbers on the vouchers were not working. One was not yet in service and the other was always "all lines are busy now".  We didn't bother to come back to their office and ask.  We couldn't afford to waste time on a shady offer.  If you had similar experience or if you were actually able to avail of this promo, would love to hear from you!

    2. Just received a call from the scammers today 11/23/22. A Free one night stay at One Place Tagaytay. First telemarketer who talked to me was Rachel and then she passed the phone to their so called "manager" Michelle Santos. I believe it also at first, but a part of me telling it's maybe a scam 'coz it's too good to be true" so i searched about one place free stay and then I saw this post. Thank you for posting this. Our time, money, and efforts wont be wasted. :)

I've had bad experiences with this before so I am very careful with these kind of stuff. Thanks for posting this. You just saved me and the family from wasting fuel, money and efforts. Thanks! :)

  5. How I was victimized by One Tagaytay, seasons out of my hard earned money

I am so mad at this company I am taking time out of my very busy schedule to write this article. I received a text message that I won a free night's stay at One Tagaytay with buffet.. Since that was my birthday, and I considered myself lucky with raffles (I won an Ipad in a company raffle the year prior), i thought, "hey cool! Thanks universe"

The representative who texted by the real or fictitious name Michelle said that "they swear" I was not obligated to spend a cent to avail of the free stay.

What was promised as a buffet was actually a pitiful sandwich that tasted a bit like cockroach and a colored juice of sorts that tasted all too sweet. I should have known their misrepresentations were a sign of things to come, but being my usual positive and patient self, I decided to give their business pitch a chance.

The business pitch is paying over Php 600,000 for vacation ownership in One Tagaytay for 40 years, meaning you can stay in their hotel for free every year, for a certain season. They told me that the hotel is a "five star hotel" and that I can exchange it for stays in other hotels for a very minimal fee. They ABSOLUTELY FAILED TO MENTION that i would have to pay $150 every year for access to the RCA database where I can exchange the yearly vacations, even though I repeatedly asked them about the hidden fees that I would have to pay.,

They would also pressure you to decide on the spot, right then and there to decide whether to join or not based on their elaborate and duplicitous marketing schemes (they subjected me and my partner to 5 hour 'hypnotic' presentation) and without giving you time to cool off and really think about their offer. They do this by saying that the discount they are offering at that day won't be available anymore except for that day and by giving you supposedly cheaper and betted packages. This is not surprising given that if you do online research, you will be able to then learn of the horrible reviews of their hotel and what a scam and a bad deal their vacation ownership really is.

I was horrified and filled with buyer's remorse to discover that when you look online, the reviews of the hotel are actually very horrible and few would actually ever come close to calling it a five star hotel. Only when I did online research did I learn about RCA having a yearly fee.. They also failed to mention that the hotel exchange would entail a $70 transfer fee each time even though I told them I am only interested in the investment to rent it out to other people, as a business, as it would be too expensive for me.

Worse of all, they must get people who break out of their hypnotic trance and realize "oh shit, why did I make that God-awful investment??" QUITE OFTEN as after your initial downpayment, they will make you sign a contract that it should be okay for you that they will not return your Php 10,000 pesos to you anymore! I went back to the office less than 24 hours and asked for my money back, and they said, they cannot give it me because that 10,000php is considered administrative fees.

What a croc of skillful and conniving hooligans these One Tagaytay people are! Worse of all, when you try to book their hotel, guess what, it is not really free of charge as they again skillfully folded in a Php 2,000 booking fee.. They may have fooled me once through their sneaky marketing tactics, shame on me, but rest assured, they will never fool me again!

I will be writing to others about my horrible experience about being duped by One Tagaytay, and Seasons. I will also report them to the Department of Trade and Industry so they will not be able to fool more into their elaborate and dishonest schemes.

    1. I'm so sorry to hear that. Php10,000 is a lot of money. I deeply sympathize. I was in some kind of state of shock when I shelled out 15K for the massager. These people really seem to have some hypnotic powers or something. Argh! I hate them! :D

  8. Hi,

I received the same call from the same establishment a couple of weeks ago. She said she got my information from the coupon I filled-out from the restaurant in Tagaytay where we had breakfast in the past. She told me we were chosen to be given a free overnight stay for two adults and two kids and advise to wait for her call as to when we can claim the prize. Luckily, I was able to read your article. I am worried that she has some of my personal information like name, marital status and the like.

  24. Received two calls from these guys. I am not so sure about this, but I only filled up a raffle coupon once in Manila Ocean Park. I went there last week of July. Two ladies handed us a raffle coupon, without hesitations I filled out the coupon. The following day, a lady called me saying I won an overnight stay in One Tagaytay Place Hotel. It says in the coupon that it's only 50% off. She asked me to book my reservation and I should pay 50% of the total amount. I told her that I needed to think about it first. She told me that I still have a lot of time since it's until December. Just yesterday, somebody called me and informed me that I won again a 3days and 2 nights hotel accommodation with the coupon I filled up in Manila Ocean Park. The person who called whose name is Lenin Angeles, asked me to visit their office Mondays-Saturdays from 5:00pm - 7:30pm to get the gift certificate. I told him that I will go to there office on Saturday. Good thing I researched for some reviews first before going to their office or else I'll be fooled by these guys. Thank you so much for this review.

  30. Just received a call (+639178663876) from a guy named Mr. RJ and spent almost 15 minutes with him discussing what I just won: a one night accommodation in One Tagaytay Place Hotel!!!

I thought of spending this wonderful price for the upcoming holidays with my wife and kids but..., the price came from an unknown caller and a mysterious raffle draw in which I didn't participate, this two may have in common: possible SCAM/hoax.

Anyway, after reading the messages here in this blog, and very surprised that this scam started way back 2013, I'll go with my hunch that this is truly a scam.

After the call, I received the following SMS from +639175790461 and needed to go to their office in Pasig to claim the GC, in which I won't fell for it.

ang sabi ko sa kanil na ang tagal na modus ito.
ito ba yun marketing strategy nila na napagaralan nung sila ay college student pa? na manloko o mang-scam sila ng tao? (no offense sa ibang Marketing Graduates)

anyway, i told them to remove my personal information on their so called "database" in order to stop this. I'm not sure how will they do it but if they call again, same response they will hear from me that they are scammers!!!

Pati sa mga mall na kukuha ng info mo like name, bday, phone number, etc..., tatapatin ko sila na scameer sila KUNG pipilitin nilang kunin yun info ko...

    3. I wonder how they get mobile numbers of people who didn't participate in any raffle and therefore didn't give out information? I'm also receiving texts of various nature - loan offers, raffle prizes, insurance freebies, etc... They are really going out of their way to scam poor unsuspecting people.

  31. It's December 2016 and they are still doing the same scam! My hubby and I sat thru such a presentation 7 yrs ago and we got the same "offer" a few weeks ago after we filled out a "raffle coupon" from Manila Ocean Park 2 weeks ago. Hay don't fall for it. Mga Ewan sila... They offer ridiculously priced RCI timeshare if u sit in thru the presentation.

Even after turning them down during their phone call (congratulations daw), they would still persist thru text messages. Here's one sample text message I got this month (DEC 2016):

CONGRATULATIONS! This is regarding when u went in Manila Ocean Park. You have been selected by our company to receive a COMPLIMENTARY GIFT CERT. which is an OVERNIGHT STAY IN OUR PREMIER HOTEL-ONE TAGAYTAY PLACE HOTEL SUITES. 40. Encountered the same thing a couple of days ago. The modus nowadays is that they will hand you a stub saying that it's for a raffle and try to get as much personal info as they can. I sort of saw it coming but somehow I ended up giving my number. True enough, I got a call the following day telling me that I won. They even got me to confirm my attendance for the "awarding"! I swear, these guys are real hypnotists! I cancelled only via text after a long exchange. My advise: NEVER TALK TO THEM PERSONALLY OR OVER THE PHONE! If you have to cancel, do it over text. It also helps to ask for their DTI Permit number (since they initially presented it as a raffle). I have often wondered how others get duped by "budol-budol" and now I know why. Even if I was sort of aware of the situation, I couldn't help but agree with what they were saying! Careful everyone!

  55. Thank you. I just received a call from a certain "Angela" that I got selected from several coupons from the last smx travel fair last weekend. No mention of a presentation. Just that I have a free one night accommodation that I have to claim in person either at their Novaliches or Ortigas office. I asked what's the catch? She just said that in order to validate that I am the one who filled up the form, I need to claim it in person. I just ended the conversation with I cannot go in either of their offices and I will have to research first about One Tagaytay Place. Lo and behold, I found this blog. Btw, I really have no plans of meeting with them because alarm bells are ringing... it really screams like they have an ulterior motive.

I had a bad experience at raffle because I was once a victim of this fake raffle at Insurance Company. Thank God i searched it online at read your blog.

  57. I received a call yesterday November 09, 2018 3:38pm with the same modus. I remember signing a raffle ticket from Philconstruct Evemt in World Trade Center (Caliraya, Crowns regency, One tagaytay hotel. on another day I received a call from named Mischelle or like informing me that I won a one night stay at One Tagaytay Place hotel Suites. But to be able to get a Complimentary GC, I need to attend 90mins orientation for familiarization of facilities and amenities of the hotel with Free lunch buffet from 11am to 1pm. I called my boss to take a leave that day because of exciting, I rappidly told my husband about it and He's much far excited too! We are planning this thou before it happens and we are excited that this may somehow less costly to us. They scheduled us today for presentation but before coming, I googled for some reviews if this is legit amd I went to this blog, after reading this I quickly cancelled it. Thank you guys for posting this from 2013 pa pala.

This is the text Message I got from them similar on what you posted.

  58. hi..me and my partner had also experienced same as you guys..we were given coupon..were called by persistent agent..we attended the 90 mins presentation..we were offered free hotel accomodation in ONe Tagaytay Place..that was 2015..and maybe because we find their offers interesting and financially practical for a family who loves to travel just like us..we commit! and up to this day...we're still enjoying the privileges they've offered! it's free indeed when we stayed in One Tagaytay..8 days and 7 nights in a year..in their Suite room..
but of course we still pay their membership fee..almost 100k..fortunately we already full paid the membership fee..at first we also thought about the scam..but we find it legit..we paid 100k as membership fee for free hotel accomodations internationally for 50 years in their affiliated hotels, resorts and cruises! maybe we all have different principles, needs and priorities..but we decided to took the risk by giving off our hardly earned 100k in exchanged of happy times with my family at least once a year travel of less accomodations expenses..
and we're glad we did the risk!
maybe its not yet your time guys to think of it because of priorities..but hopefully and each one of us deserves conveniences and leisures with our families!
    God bless us all!

nag bayad kmi ng 2k para sa partial payment ng downpayment which is 10k pero dpat mabuo nmin to on or before FEb 27, 2019.

    3. Hi! How did it go? With your Written request for cancellation, did you personally handed it over sa One Corporate Center office nila? I was duped and totally stupid to ever enter this sort of deception. Buti I only gave 500 pesos for their so-called "Reservation" kaso the sales rep did not inform me that its for admin and processing fee which is non refundable. Been up all night to figure out how to end this "binding" contract with them. Seasons Vacation's website is down so I can't really check their site. Your response will truly be appreciated and will help a lot. Thank you!

    4. Hi. Sorry to hear about this. Your lawyer is right. Besides, what processing and administration fees are they talking about??? Wala naman silang tinrabaho. And if meron man, I'm sure it's not worth 10K! That's extortion! Sila pa ang nanakot ng hearing??? Wow!

  69. Thank heavens I read this blog. A certain Noel called me early this evening (March 17, 2019) saying that I was one of the chosen few who were selected for free accommodation. I immediately felt skeptic as the guy asked for Occupation, length of stay in the employment, marital status etc. And then he asked if my monthly income reaches 45 thousand pesos and below. I immediately answered him that I only earn 20 thousand pesos per month. And then right away he told me that someone will just call me for verification whatever. This is a scam.
